The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Amuru district, Oceng Geoffrey Osborn has ordered compulsory Covid-19 vaccination for all boda boda riders in the district.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Amuru district, Oceng Geoffrey Osborn has ordered compulsory Covid-19 vaccination for all boda boda riders in the district.

The decision comes amid slow vaccine rollout in the district.

In a letter dated September 14, to the District Health Officer (DHO) of Amuru, Oceng directed for immediate vaccination of all boda boda cyclist against Covid-19 before carrying on operations.

Oceng who also doubles as the district’s chairperson for the Covid-19 taskforce said the move is intended to curb the spread of the deadly virus in the district.

“As you are aware the boda boda cyclists are the frontline public service persons that need to be protected against the virus as a mitigation measure to contain a rapid spread of the disease from one end user client to another,” he said.

“I therefore, write to direct the immediate vaccination of the said group of persons as an effort towards curbing Covid-19 pandemic in the country.”

Boda bodas riders become the latest group of workers in Amuru to test Oceng’s iron grip.

In April, the RDC issued a directive to the district’s DHO, to have all frontline health workers in Amuru vaccinated before reporting to health centers.

Despite the plea, many medical workers had reportedly missed out on the vaccination exercise over unknown reasons.

The unvaccinated health workers who had insisted were in July, blocked from accessing the health facilities, a move the district Covid-19 Taskforce said was aimed at saving the lives of the medical workers and patients.

On March 10, Amuru district received 3,000 AstraZeneca doses to vaccinate its residents with 486 registered health workers having been considered priority recipients of the jab.
