Vision Group sports analyst, Alexander okidi has distanced himself from the ongoing COVID-19 relief fund scandal in which a number of potential people tagged themselves as most vulnerable and yet they are NOT.
According to okidi, his wife who is a vendor in Olayo-ilong Market Gulu used his National ID to register for the free money since she lost her ID.
“The registration for Nabanja money happened in July when I was in Kampala doing Euro2020 live commentary and analysis on WAN LUO TV. I spent the entire July working in Kampala”.
On the list are bankers at Centenary and Post Bank, the town clerks of the two divisions in Gulu city, journalist, former LCIII Chairman, the current speaker Bardege-layibi Division among other councilors and civil servants. But why me? Okidi asked.
As he reinstated a claim spinning around the mismanagement of funds meant for the renovation of Pece Stadium by Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, MP Gulu West and the Chairperson Parliamentary Accounts Committee.
“This is simply logic because as a journalist, I had misunderstandings with Mapenduzi in 2017 over corruption during Pece Stadium renovation and in 2018 when a big sum of money for Acoli team was swindled I had clear evidence. He is now using this covid19 money issue to revenge against me” Okidi moaned as he shared his woes in a viral online post.
However, Mapenduzi asserts to Okidi’s allegation as diversionary and ignorable! Noting that, First, Okidi got registered as a Food Vendor in Pece Lukung and not Olayo-Ilong as stated.
“He provided his NIN and Phone numbers correctly and received the money in July. If indeed he was registered by his wife without his knowledge, did he asked why and where the money was coming from? Does it mean the wife also registered herself? Is it not then possible that the wife also registered other family members?” Mapenduzi queried.
Adding that, the said money was meant for particular categories, with strict and clear guidelines. However, as the committee continues with the investigations more is yet to be unmasked but as the chair of the committee – “I won’t get diverted” – Mapenduzi
