Mathias Mpuuga representing the people of Nyendo-Mukungwe is set to replace Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Betty Aol Ochan (Gulu Woman MP) who has been in the position since August 2018.
Mpuuga’s appointment was announced today by NUP Secretary General, Mr David Lewis Rubongoya, barely a week after members of the 11th Parliament were sworn-in.
With 57 representatives, NUP definitely has the majority of representatives and as culture, opposition party with the highest number of representatives has the decree to choose their leader in the house.
However, Mego Aol Betty Ochan’s party FDC pulled only 32 members while DP and UP brought onboard 9 each making her pave way for NUP’s Mathias as stipulated in the Administration of Parliament Amendment Act 2006. Where the appointee’s principal role is to keep government in check.
In a related scenario, Lucy Akello, the Amuru District Woman is going to deputized Parliamentary Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) chaired by Hon Joel Ssenyonyi, Nakawa West Member of Parliament.
