Number of Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Uganda now stands at 85 Now.
Gulu COVID-19 Task Force has this evening announced and confirmed the admittance of one positive coronavirus patient at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, the chairperson LCV Gulu who also doubles at the Vice Chairperson COVID-19 Task Force in his daily info updates to the populace said,
“We would like to inform you that a 40-year-old Ugandan truck driver who tested positive was intercepted at Elegu in Amuru District and has been brought to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Isolation Ward this evening. Our medical team did everything possible to effectively handle the case “.
According to Mapenduzi, the driver is a resident of Kyengera, Nakasozi zone in Kampala who travelled to Juba, South Sudan on 27/04/2020 the same day his samples were taken and sent for testing.
On release of results, he was found to be positive and placed on a watch list thus his interception today at Elegu border post from Juba.
“The patient is in a stable condition; we want to appeal to our people to remain calm. We will defeat this disease together if people stick to the set presidential guideline besides precautionary measures set forth by Ministry of Health.”
His revelation came in shortly after the Ministry of Health declared 2 more new COVID-19 as of 1st may 2020 bringing confirmed number of cases to 85.
According to Ministry of Health the two newly established cases includes that of a 35 y/o Kenyan male truck driver who arrived via Busia border and even returned back kenya and a Ugandan male from Masindi District, who was confirmed today during the rapid assessment survey that the Ministry is leading to establish community transmission of COVID-19.
In their findings, out of the 2,454 samples tested, all 399 samples from the community tested negative for COVID-19. To-date, 27 truck drivers have tested positive for COVID-19; of these 17 truck drivers have returned to their respective countries while 10 are admitted at different hospitals in Uganda besides a total of 15 active COVID-19 cases are admitted in hospital and in stable condition.
