Ultimatum: Arrest Those Roaming Soldiers – UPDF 4th Division Commander Roars.

Lance Corporal Godfrey Okello Oneka accused killing three civilians to the 4th Division Court Martial room in Gulu

URN I N24Newsroom The 4th Division Commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Force – UPDF in Gulu, Brig Gen Bonny Bamwiseki has ordered for the arrest of any idle and disorderly soldiers seen in the public.

Bamwiseki’s directive to the military unit commanders and sister security agencies aims at curtailing indiscipline following complaints about soldiers who loiter around disco halls and local bars, where some have ended up clashing with civilians.

The directive also relates to a recent incident in which a UPDF soldier, Lance Corporal Geoffrey Okello Oneka was accused of killing three civilians in Vanguard Parish, Pece Division in Gulu Municipality.  Okello, 32, is now facing charges before the Division Court Martial.

Bamwiseki explains that every soldier can only move out of the barracks if deployed on duty. He warned that any soldier seen armed, and in uniform without clear intent must be reported to the relevant authorities to face military disciplinary measures.

The Commander further argues that the institution of the UPDF is meant to protect peace and security of the civilians and implored the public to report errant officers so that they are arrested to face the long arm of the law.
